is on again, which means Mudgeeraba's historic village will be full of people staring thoughtfully at paintings and pretending they know what "representational" means. Basically, it's art that looks like things, unlike that splodge you saw at the gallery last week. This annual not-for-profit bash is the Gold Coast's longest running fine art prize, and it's got a prize pool of $33,000, with $20,000 going to the lucky winner. Over 300 finalist artworks from all over Australia will be on display in categories like Landscape, Still Life, Figurative, Animal Portraits, Juniors, and All Abilities. If you've ever wanted to start an art collection or just buy something that isn't a print from Kmart, this is your chance – all adult works are for sale.
The exhibition runs from 19 to 28 June 2026 at the Firth Park Community Centre on Somerset Drive in Mudgeeraba, and entry is free. Seriously, free. So you can pop in, have a look, and maybe buy a painting if you're feeling fancy or just enjoy the air conditioning. There's a carpark, it's family friendly, non smoking, and has public toilets – basically everything you need for a few hours of culture. Disabled access is available if you contact the organisers. Getting there? Public transport or active travel is recommended because parking can be a bit of a circus. If you do drive, use the EasyPark app to avoid fines because nobody wants to pay for a parking ticket while looking at landscapes. Plan your trip with Translink or check the City of Gold Coast parking page if you're that organised. Otherwise, just turn up and enjoy the show.
