I drink a lot of cold coffee. No, not deliberately requested iced coffee. Just cold coffee. Cold coffee which has ended up cold in the process of chasing kids around, and not enough hours in the day. I also have a theory that my children will and do experience their worst crises and most concerning injuries the moment I make a fresh brew.
The elusive hot coffee had evaded me.... that was until I stumbled across the
Gold Coast Motor Museum . I will state upfront that I am NOT a car connoisseur by any extent of the imagination. A car to me is a means of getting from one place to another, comfortably and safely. That is about where it starts and ends. However, when I found out this place had a car museum, a restaurant, a fabulous array of roaming farm animals and the most picturesque outlook of any cafe I know, the kids and I were on their doorstep! And now? Well, now we are groupies!
Open five days a week with extended trading hours (closed Monday and Tuesday), my children think this place is without flaw. They can roam around the safe and beautiful lawns, under a gum tree or two, hang out with Woody the rooster and his chicken friends, pat the ponies (Heidi and Dolly), and laugh about the alpacas' weird hairdos. There are cricket bats and ball games for the kids to enjoy and colouring sheets with the kid's menu. The food is reasonably priced with the choice of indoor or outdoor seating (go outdoors!) and best of all, the coffee is great! The coffee is better than great. It is hot and enjoyed while thrilled little ones explore nature and burn off their pent-up energy.
The outlook from the rustic wooden tables is superb. Overlooking the Gold Coast hinterland, the shades of blue, green and everything in between on a sunny day is without compare. Even better is the fact the outdoor seating mostly falls under the shade of the building to help protect you and your meal from the well-loved, but at times, unhelpful, Aussie sun. I love to dabble in amateur photography and so sitting there, with my coffee and meal, and snapping a few landscape shots sends me into a meditative state. This is soon interrupted by the sounds of my kids squealing at the talking bird, or the argument over the soccer match yet, by this stage, nothing can bring me down. Check out the
Gold Coast Motor Museum Facebook Page to find out about their events and specials, or to simply get a feel before you venture out.
Located a brief drive from the Gold Coast, it is well worth a trip for the family. Expect your babes to get dirty and budget on a lot of smiling faces. It is also a great place for a birthday party, young or old. The venue is located on 12 beautiful acres and is well-signposted. You can book a table in the restaurant in advance and, on weekends, in particular, this is highly recommended. It is not usual for the restaurant to be fully booked when the weather delights. If you have a child-free date night coming up, you will also find the night menu and cocktail list very appealing.
The car museum is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and kids under 15 are free. The eclectic range of vehicles spans the years 1900 to 1988 and there are over 75 cars and bikes on display. It is flat and easy walking (pram friendly too) and right next door to the restaurant. Having opened in 2020, the museum is a tribute by two brothers who were keen to honour their father's legacy. It is a place of heart, history, happiness, and healthy eating. I really can't think of a better place for all the family to relax and catch up after a busy week of school, work, and life. You just have to go!
