The Australian Open of Bowls is happening again on the Gold Coast, and yes, it's still a massive deal. It runs for either 14 or 15 days depending on which bit of the official blurb you read, but either way it sprawls across 14 or 15 host clubs all over the coast. Since moving to the sunny Gold Coast back in 2015, this event has turned into a proper festival of lawn bowls. Over 3,550 bowlers from around Australia and the rest of the world are expected to show up, and any registered bowler can just enter. It's officially the world's biggest bowls festival and also the richest, with more than 350,000 Australian dollars in prize money spread across 15 different disciplines. So if you like watching people roll heavy balls at a little white target while sipping something cold, this is the place to be.
The facilities are the usual suspects: bar, cafe, kiosk, restaurant, shop, public toilets and a public telephone if you still use one. Family friendly, and they actively welcome people with access needs. As for getting there, public transport or active travel is your best bet, because parking can be a bit of a game. If you do drive, use the EasyPark app to handle metered parking and avoid fines. More info on parking is on the City of Gold Coast website. The whole thing kicks off on 15 June 2026. Come for the bowls, stay for the confusion about how many days it actually lasts.
