I am fussy about most things. When it comes to paying for family photos, I go into fussiness overdrive. I am not a fan of overly posed and photoshopped images that make every family look the same and leave them mounting the same images as everyone else on their wall. I crave photos that capture the essence of who people are and record moments of emotion between loved ones. I love sunset images. I love great photographers. I love quick photoshoots especially given that my two-year-old son is never keen to sit still.

I had been watching Alicia's handiwork on Facebook for some time but had never reached out until recently. It appeared to me that she was a master at natural shots, beautiful sunset backdrops, and simplicity in styling. The icing on top was that she seemed very cost-effective. My impressions were correct. Actually, my impressions underestimated who she is and what she is capable of behind a camera. I hope that mums reading this who are keen to update their family images feel encouraged to give her a try and see what she can do for them.

On her recommendation, we ventured to a field in Pimpama as the sun was going down. Armed with nothing more than a camera and a rug, we scurried through the long grass and into a mowed opening that was just simple country. At first, I was worried it was too simple. I was wrong as my photos will show. Dressed in matching ochre tones, Alicia snapped the four of us as we did 'our thing' in the opening, almost as if we were unaware of her presence. As anticipated, Master Two was too busy for proceedings and I was concerned he would get left out as he was more interested in running away, jumping in muddy puddles, and trying to find ducks. Yet, Alicia's efficiency prevailed and she snapped him in all his glory, with his sisters and in my arms, during the two or three seconds that he played ball.

Starting at $150 for a Mini Session which includes an Ormeau location, weekday shoot, 15-minute session, and five digital images, this is evidence that you don't need to break the budget to get great images of your most important little people. We all know that time flies when it comes to our kids growing up. I cannot think of anything more valuable than capturing the connection between siblings and parents, and if you wish, extended family. As I admire the images of my three little ones together and know that these pictures capture each one of them in all their perfection and imperfections, I am certain that the images will increase in value as my kids age.

Check out Alicia's Facebook Page and her website to review her style. She is a fan of both coloured and B&W images, although some of her B&W work will move you in a way like no others. If it's time to get some new canvases up on your loungeroom wall, this is a professional photographer who can more than assist.
