Nestled in the stunning Mooloolah Valley on the Sunshine Coast, QLD, is a whimsical world of unicorns waiting to be ridden. Surrounded by chuckling fairies hidden in a true Aussie bush setting, these unicorns enjoy being ridden as part of a birthday party, yet they will also happily focus on your children on their own. Unicorn Whispers is the name of this whimsical world. And my question to you is, "why didn't you know this place existed?" Luckily, you do now!

Yes, there are horses on this land, and you can even partake of the cute and cosy cottages nearby if you would like to make a weekend of it. However, if you are simply looking for a way to broaden your child's imagination and delight your little ones these school holidays (or any other weekend), head to Kings Valley Road. $90 will buy you a 45- minute child's unicorn ride (can be shared across two children), followed by time for them at the cute and rustic Teddy Bears' Picnic and a chance to make a wish in the wishing well. All up, you can aim to spend about 75 minutes there in total.

Alternatively, if you want to capture something really special to last the years, you can book the photography package for $180 plus $499 for the cost of the photographer, and take home some truly magical images. After all, it is not any old day that a unicorn crosses your path and so it does deserve a chance to be etched in time. For further pricing details, as well as details of the party package, go to Unicorn Whispers .

With my four-year-old son, Miss Seven and Miss Nine on board, we headed up from the Gold Coast to embrace this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The owners of the experience could not believe we would travel this far 'just for them', but when something is important and super special, my family are willing to travel. And travel we did. My son could not believe that the fairies were talking to him and he proudly declared that he is the Best Unicorn Rider in the World to his guide. I'm not 100% that such a title exists, but if it does, it has been officially claimed ... which is interesting given I'm uncertain how many other unicorns he has practised on. I digress ...

Don't get me wrong. This is not an experience for those looking for perfectly manicured lawns and tree ferns in matching, colour-coordinated pots. There are dirt tracks, rocks, jumbled tea sets, and dirt used as loose leaf tea for the tea party. There is an actual field mouse nesting in one of the bird houses tied up a tree. There are bugs and barbed wire fences. The restroom is nothing flash. However, my kids thought it was fabulous, and the guides are lovely people, with golden and country hearts. They are happy to share with you and your tribe as much or as little as you would like to know about unicorns, and even about the history of the land they are on and its longstanding horse riding legacy. Hard hats, insect repellent and sunscreen is provided. There is no food on site, so take some with you, or do what we did and relax in the quaint village up the road afterwards. There is a local IGA there with everything and anything on its shelves. A trip into the local IGA is a special event in itself!
