The Sands Park and Marina One Cafe

I have lived on the Coast for over ten years. Hope Island has seen a lot of change in that time and rapid housing improvement. Nestled around various inlets and boat marinas, the area celebrates the boating lifestyle and is full of self-funded retirees. It is also home to some magic fishing and swimming locations that only the locals tend to know about.
Sands Park is one of them.
Located at 81 Boykambil Esplanade North, Hope Island QLD, Sands Park has a beautiful white sandy beach, great fishing, parking almost on the beach and a chance to watch the stunning white boats sail past. It is typically quiet and a great spot for a sunset playdate or morning picnic on the lush grass bordering the sand. There are no toilets or picnic tables so you need to be self-sufficient. Yet the water is typically warm and very clean and there are some lovely trees to set up beneath.
About 150m up the road from Sands Park you will find another great treasure, The Marina One Cafe. Perched on the water and with great food and service, a trip to this cafe after or before a day on the beach is popular with my crew. You can grab a takeaway and some treats for the kids, or make a day of it and engage in a full a la carte meal. They do everything from toasties up to Surf and Turf, and the chance to watch over the boats and soak up the sun is an added bonus. There are copious amounts of fish in the marina waters for the kids to watch and bait for sale if you need to restock after being at Sands Park.
I have not been to either location and had to share it with a crowd. Both places are quaint and perhaps not well known, and great for a mini-vacation that is effectively just up the road. My kids call sitting at the Cafe "going on holiday" which I find rather cute and is a lot cheaper than actually doing so. The coffee at the Marina is good and the fact we can park at Sands Park and walk up is a further winner. If you love sun, surf, and sand with a spot of coffee and fishing thrown in, this is the place for you and your family. Enjoy!
