You may recall my recent post on Hosanna Farm at Stokers Siding on the NSW/QLD border. We recently returned with some beautiful friends to utilise a day pass. This was a totally different experience from the last time and an experience costing less than $30 in total for a family. Did I say $30? Yes, I did. Now I have your attention.

Tucked away behind Murwillumbah in NSW, Hosanna Farmstay is an easy drive from the Gold Coast and well worth the effort if you are based in Brisbane. The owners have invested well over recent years and the facilities now include extra parking, cabins, toilet blocks, a country cafe and BBQ area, a lovely grassed firepit area with party lighting, artificial grassed platforms next to the feeding yards where mud and gunk typically manifest, and an activities schedule to keep even the most energetic person challenged. The country store sells products to buy like relishes, cheeses, sauces and jams, toiletries and honey, confectionary and rustic souvenirs, ice creams, and the occasional tea towel.

The bunnies are gone from our last visit, yet in their place are quail with their plethora of eggs everywhere, piglets snuffling around, tractor rides, chickens to touch and buy, a phenomenal country 'black plastic' waterslide zooming down the mountainside into the lake, kayaks attached to the jetty on the dam with an Aldi gold-coin lock system, treasure hunts, and a fort for kids to climb and claim as their own. The playground facilities have also been upgraded and moved further up the hill affording greater areas of lush green grass for families to picnic on.

We fed cows, jumped in the river, swam in the dam, shot down the waterslide, kayaked about, spend multiple visits with the chickens (my daughter is still annoyed I would not give her the $7 to bring one home), smashed pumpkins, enjoyed a coffee, drink and the $3 sausages on bread, tackled the treasure hunt and swam some more. If you are looking for more substantial food, the cafe offers excellent creative meals around the $25 mark, or there is the option to picnic on the grass with your own stash. The sun put on an amazing display for us for this time of year and we came home with some terrific photos. It is just such a serene and homely location.

Day passes can be booked online and are $7 per person. Children under two are free. Day Passes are cheaper if you buy online. You can even buy a night pass if your days are taken up with work. You can view the Activities Schedule in advance so you know what you will be getting for your $7. Just such superb value. A Day Pass gives you access to everything you can possibly want from 9 am to 5 pm and by 3 pm in the afternoon, your children will be knackered! We spent the afternoon sitting on the bank of the gorgeous creek and leaving the outside world to do its thing. By 4 pm, the staff were ramping up the campfires and getting ready for the damper display. This was perhaps the highlight of the visit according to my five and seven-year-old. As we rolled our damper above the coals, suspended on bamboo sticks, and then covered the resulting bread with lashings of butter and golden syrup, my girls declared it was another day that they would never forget.

Let's touch on this Waterslide. Picture a slide bigger than what you would ever hope to see, covered in the thickest of black plastic, cut deep into the dirt, and pouring down the side of the hill and into the dam. Add on some soap to speed things up, a solid "wedgie or two", and everyone's Dad having a go as their inner child has been tempted, and you have a pretty good image of what you will find. The slide is open at certain times throughout the day and patrolled by staff during this period. It is fenced off outside of the given timeslots. And it is included in your Day Pass cost.

You can ride around on bikes or walk to the top of the cliff. There is a table tennis table for a bit of healthy competition, and outdoor showers for those who need to cool off, clean up, or rinse off after a dip in the dam. I'll leave it here as it is now up to you to plan your trip and work out how you will cram everything this place has to offer into an eight-hour day. Whatever you decide to do, you will return home tired, relaxed, and with some perfect memories.
