As a mum of three young kids, it continually fascinates me how the tastes of each child differ. Yet, when it comes to the circus, there is no differentiation. All three love a trip to the circus and it never fails to thrill. Our latest circus adventure was a true winner! Founded in the early 1800s and as Australia's oldest circus family, Ashton's Circus gets a tick from us and should prove a good investment in your time as it tours South East Queensland. From now up until 3rd August 2025, you will find Ashton's at the Broadwater Parklands, Southport, then Redland Bay, then onto Canungra Showground.

I quote from their website:-
"For over 173 years The Ashton Circus Family has travelled to both regional towns and big cities, bringing joy to the people of Australia. Generations of the Ashtons crossed deserts and flooded rivers, drove over snow-covered mountains, fended off bushrangers, and even ventured where there were no roads to reach the communities." ......... Now, if that doesn't motivate you to get among Australian history and take your family, I'm not sure what will. There is a lovely opportunity here to talk to your kids about family legacy and how not everything can be experienced on a tablet or iPhone. Sometimes in life, you have to see it with your own eyes, in person, to fully get the tingles.

The aerial performances are beautiful. The clown is entertaining and different to what you would expect. The heating of the tent for nighttime shows is wonderful and you will find a cosiness to the performance that you wouldn't have anticipated. If you can, go to a night show as the lighting in the Big Top is striking against the dark.

At $33 an adult and $17 a child for B Reserve seating, and children under three free, prices are comparatively good and will get you an intimate experience with a close-knit group of performers, without any animals on display. If you can afford ringside tickets , I would recommend it, as some of the structures from the infrastructure can obscure your view in B Reserve seating. However, don't get too fussed about it if you can't. It will still deliver a great show and time with the family, regardless of where you sit. The performance concludes with tandem motorbike riders spinning around at ridiculous speeds inside a metal globe, and well, at that point, Master Four couldn't stay seated and was on his feet. I think his sister enjoyed watching his excitement more than the actual motorbikes.

Prices for pre-show and intermission food and activities are reasonable with $8 a carnival ride, $15 for a reasonable quality spinning light wand, $10 a box of popcorn, and basic carnival food (hot chips, soft drinks, fairy floss, hot dogs, etc). It will cost $15 for a printed photo, with your family and the motorbike extraordinaires inside The Globe, another highlight for my children. Thank goodness there was room for all of them to sit on the motorbike for the photo!

When did you last visit the circus? Looking for a great night out? Whack on some Greatest Showman tunes, pop the kids in the car, and check out Ashton's Circus on tour right now.
